Global Legal Readiness Index™

See how ready each country is, legally, for what you want to do there.

A written readiness profile for the countries you are weighing. You tell us what you want to do and which countries you are considering, up to ten. WLA draws on the Global Legal Readiness Index™, which covers 80+ jurisdictions, and sets the countries side by side for your kind of activity, with the questions that need a local lawyer's answer.

In plain words

What this is, and whether you need it.

What it is

A report, not software. Before a business commits to a country, it helps to see how ready the legal environment is for what it plans to do there: setting up, contracting, hiring, moving money and data, and enforcing a right if something goes wrong. The profile sets the countries you are considering side by side, so you can compare them for your own purpose rather than in general.

When to use it

When you are choosing between countries, when a board asks "where should we go first?", or when you want a first view of a country before paying for deeper work. It comes before a Decision Map or a Market Entry plan, not after.

How to use it

Tell us what you plan to do and list the countries you are considering. We confirm what is included and a fixed fee in writing. You then receive the profile in your WLA account.

What you gain

You can compare countries on legal readiness for your actual plan, early, and drop or keep options with reasons. You know which questions to put to a local lawyer. You spend on deeper work only where it is worth it.

A simple example

THE SITUATION

A company wants to open its first overseas office and is weighing three countries. Management has opinions but no common way to compare them.

WITHOUT THE PROFILE

Each country is judged on reputation or on whoever the team knows. The comparison is not like for like, and the questions that matter surface only after one country is chosen.

WITH THE PROFILE

The three countries are set side by side for the same plan: setting up, contracting, hiring, moving data and money, and enforcing. The open legal questions for each are listed, and management chooses with reasons.

Words used on this page

Legal readiness

How prepared a country's legal environment is for a particular kind of business activity, as it would be met in practice.

Jurisdiction

A country or other territory with its own legal system.

Side by side

The same questions asked of each country, so the answers can be compared.

Enforcement

Making a right real: getting a contract, award or judgment carried out.

Local counsel

A lawyer qualified in that country. Only they can confirm what the country's law requires for you.

Global Legal Readiness Index™

A WLA reference covering 80+ jurisdictions, the starting point for each profile.

Is it right for you?

Use it when you are choosing where to act.

Choosing a first market

You are weighing several countries for a first move.

Choosing where to invest

You are comparing places to put capital or an operating team.

A board question

Directors want a comparable view before approving a country.

A first look

You want a view of a country before paying for deeper work.

Comparing corridors

You are deciding between routes for trade or investment.

Re-checking a plan

Circumstances changed and you want to compare your options again.

NOT THE RIGHT PRODUCT IF

You have already chosen the country, use Market Entry Legal Readiness™. You have a decision and want the whole legal scope, use Cross-Border Decision Map™. You need an executive briefed on one country, use Executive Orientation Desk™.

NOT SURE?

Send a short note through Brief WLA, or start from Ask WLA, and we will point you to the right product. WLA itself does not give legal advice; it introduces the right firm.

What you receive

Five parts, from your plan to who can help.

Your profile has five parts, always in this order. Each one is explained below in plain words.

  1. 01

    What you plan to do

Your purpose in plain words, and the activities the comparison is built around.

  2. 02

    Readiness profile for each country

For each country you named, how its legal environment looks for your activities.

  3. 03

    Side-by-side comparison

The countries set against each other on the same questions.

  4. 04

    Questions for a local lawyer

What only a lawyer qualified in that country can answer, written so you can ask it.

  5. 05

    Counsel in each country

The lawyers WLA can introduce in each country where you need local advice.

What it looks like

An invented example, to show the shape of the profile. A real profile is built on your plan and verified by lawyers in each country.

Questions

Before you ask.

Is this a document or software?

A document. It is a written report, delivered to your WLA account, that you can read, share with colleagues and use to brief your lawyers. It is not an app you operate.

Is this legal advice?

No. World Law Alliance does not provide legal services and is not a law firm. The report organises the questions and shows where advice is needed. Where it is, WLA introduces the designated partner firm in that country, which is solely responsible for the advice it gives.

What does "verified by lawyers" mean?

The engine drafts from WLA records. It does not establish what the law currently is. A WLA lawyer in each country verifies every legal statement before the report is delivered.

Does it rank countries?

It compares the countries you name on the same questions for your plan. It does not give a general league table, and it does not tell you which country to choose; that is a business decision.

What is the Global Legal Readiness Index™?

A WLA reference covering 80+ jurisdictions. It is the starting point for each profile; the profile is then built for your plan and verified by lawyers.

How many countries can I include?

Up to ten in one request. For more, tell us in the form and we will confirm how it can be scoped.

Does it replace a Decision Map or Market Entry plan?

No. It helps you choose where. Once you have chosen, the Decision Map or Market Entry Legal Readiness goes deeper.

How much does it cost, and how long does it take?

WLA confirms a fixed fee and the delivery date in writing once scope is agreed. Sending a request carries no obligation.

How is my information handled?

It is treated as confidential and used to respond to your request. See the privacy policy for details.

Do I need an account?

We set one up for you from your work email so you can follow the request. You sign in with a one-time code sent to that email.

What if my country is not in the suggestions?

Enter it anyway. The suggestions list countries where WLA has approved professionals, but you can name any market and we will tell you how it will be covered.
