What it is
A report on one corridor, published every quarter. A corridor is the route of business and investment between two regions, such as the Gulf and Central and Eastern Europe. For that route, the report covers the legal side on both ends: the rule changes, the approvals and checks that now apply, and what is happening in the deal market. It also says what changed since last quarter, and who the lawyers are on each side.
When to use it
When you invest, acquire or expand along a specific route and want one clear, regular picture of the legal ground on both sides. Also when you are choosing between routes, or deciding whether to go ahead with a deal and need to know what has recently changed.
How to use it
Choose the corridor you follow and tell us what you do along it. WLA confirms scope and fee in writing. After that, each quarter's report is published in your WLA account and you are told by e-mail. You can read the summary there and open the full report.
What you gain
You see changes on both sides of your route in one place, without reading two sets of news. You know which approvals and checks are now in force before you commit to a deal. You can tell what is new since last quarter. You know who to call in each country.
THE SITUATIONA fund based in the Gulf invests in companies in Central and Eastern Europe. It has two deals in preparation.
WITHOUT THE REPORTThe fund's team follows rule changes country by country through different advisers. Updates arrive at different times and in different formats. A new approval requirement is noticed late, when the deal is already advanced.
WITH THE REPORTEach quarter the fund receives one report on its corridor. It shows what changed on both sides since last quarter, the approvals and checks now in force, and the lawyers to call. The team plans its deals with the same picture.
CorridorThe route of business and investment between two regions, for example the Gulf and Central and Eastern Europe.
Corridor LeaderA senior WLA professional on each side of a corridor who helps edit and approve the report.
Deal-climate indicatorA measure of how active and open the market is for deals on the corridor.

Approval, screening and tax gatesChecks that a government or authority may require before or after a deal, such as investment approval or tax clearance.
