THE CO-PRACTICE PROTOCOL

FOUR STEPS.
ONE INSTITUTIONAL
CO-PRACTICE ENGAGEMENT.

WLA co-practice is not a referral protocol. It is an Institutional framework — pre-built infrastructure that allows independent law firms in multiple jurisdictions to jointly hold your matter as one co-practice team, under one engagement, with one standard of quality.

STEP 01
BRIEF WLA

Describe your matter in plain language — the jurisdictions, the parties, the issue. No RFP. No procurement process. WLA Central Command receives your brief within minutes.

STEP 02
WLA IDENTIFIES THE TEAM

WLA Central Command matches your matter to the right WLA partner firms in every jurisdiction. Written confirmation within 48 hours. Conflicts checked. No surprises.

STEP 03
CO-PRACTICE BEGINS

The co-practice team jointly holds your matter as one integrated team — sharing strategy, aligning on outcomes, reporting through one point of contact. Both sides. Simultaneously.

STEP 04
ONE ENGAGEMENT CLOSE

Every jurisdiction. Every deliverable. One Institutional framework. One bill. One relationship. One standard of quality throughout — from brief to close.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

NOT A REFERRAL.
A JOINTLY HELD
MATTER.

Most cross-border legal arrangements stop at referral. The local partner takes on the client as their own. WLA is different — the matter is jointly held from day one, with shared accountability throughout.

DIFFERENTIATOR 01

NOT A REFERRAL — A JOINTLY HELD MATTER

When WLA co-practice firms work together, they jointly hold the matter. The local partner in each jurisdiction is not a sub-contractor — they are a full co-practice partner, accountable for the outcome alongside every other WLA firm on the engagement.

DIFFERENTIATOR 02

ONE ENGAGEMENT FRAMEWORK, EVERY BORDER

One brief. One WLA relationship. One bill. The co-practice team in each jurisdiction operates under WLA's Co-Practice Protocol — aligned on strategy, reporting through one point of contact. You don't manage multiple firms. You manage WLA.

DIFFERENTIATOR 03

PRE-ACCREDITED. ANNUAL REVIEW. NO SURPRISES.

Every WLA partner firm has been reviewed against four published professional standards before they hold any mandate. The review happens annually. You know the quality of the team before it is assembled — not after the matter has started.

DIFFERENTIATOR 04

CENTRAL COMMAND CO-ORDINATION

WLA Central Command — New Delhi and Vienna — co-ordinates the team. The right firms are selected against objective criteria. Strategy is aligned across jurisdictions. The engagement closes to WLA's published standard. Central Command is the institutional backbone of every mandate.

FOUR PUBLISHED STANDARDS

EVERY WLA PARTNER FIRM.
PRE-ACCREDITED.
ONE STANDARD.

Every firm in the WLA framework has been reviewed against four published standards — reviewed annually. The co-practice team you receive has already been quality-tested. The designation can be lost. That is what makes it worth having.

01

JURISDICTIONAL STANDING

Active practice. Regulatory good standing. Verified independently by WLA — not self-certified. A firm cannot hold a WLA designation in a jurisdiction where it does not have the right to practise and good regulatory standing.

02

QUALITY STANDARDS

Alignment with WLA professional standards — client care, ethics, matter management, and Co-Practice Protocol conduct. The standard is published. Firms know what is expected before they apply and throughout their tenure.

03

CO-PRACTICE ENGAGEMENT

Active participation in WLA practice groups, intelligence contribution, and cross-border matter engagement. A designation held but not used is a designation that will not survive the annual review. Engagement is the standard.

04

ANNUAL REVIEW

Designation reviewed every year against all four standards. Standards published publicly. The designation can be lost — and has been. That is precisely what makes it credible to the GC teams and boards who rely on it.
