About
SSEMWEZI ELIZABETH SVIETA
Partner at Landwell Advocates & Solicitors

Ssemwezi Elizabeth Svieta is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a Partner at Landwell Advocates & Solicitors in Kampala. With over a decade of legal practice, she advises businesses, multinational corporations, financial institutions, development finance institutions, and regional investors on a broad range of corporate, commercial, regulatory, transactional, and dispute-related matters.

Elizabeth\'s practice is focused on helping clients navigate the legal and commercial complexities of operating, investing, and expanding within Uganda and the wider East African market. Her work combines corporate and commercial advisory with experience in financial-sector matters, cross-border investment, corporate restructuring, regulatory compliance, and complex civil litigation.

Her financial-sector and debt structuring practice includes advising development finance institutions and financial institutions on regulatory and legal frameworks, debt instruments, and related compliance considerations. She works with clients on structuring approaches designed to address legal and regulatory requirements while supporting their broader commercial and financial objectives.

In cross-border investment and corporate structuring, Elizabeth advises regional and international investors on market entry, investment structures, corporate arrangements, and expansion within East Africa. Her work involves assessing the legal and regulatory environment applicable to transactions and helping clients develop structures that are commercially viable and legally robust.

Elizabeth also advises on corporate restructuring, governance, and regulatory compliance, supporting corporate entities through periods of organisational change and realignment. Her practice includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, governance frameworks, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Her complex civil litigation and dispute resolution practice involves advising and representing clients in significant commercial disputes before the Ugandan courts and other relevant regional forums. She approaches contentious matters with a focus on protecting clients\' legal and commercial interests while developing practical strategies for managing disputes and associated business risks.

A significant aspect of Elizabeth\'s practice is the integration of legal strategy with commercial considerations. She works to understand the operational and strategic objectives underlying each matter and provides advice that is responsive to both the legal framework and the client\'s broader business requirements.

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, Hons) from Makerere University, obtained in 2009, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC), Kampala, obtained in 2010.

She is a member of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) and the East Africa Law Society (EALS).
