EDGAR OKITOI

Associate at Landwell Advocates & Solicitors
Edgar Okitoi is an Associate at Landwell Advocates, where he supports the firm\'s corporate and commercial practice. His work combines practical legal experience with a strong commitment to legal research, scholarship, and the development of legal frameworks that support economic growth, innovation, and social justice.
Edgar holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), graduating Magna Cum Laude from Uganda Christian University. His academic background and continuing engagement with legal scholarship have shaped a research-driven approach to legal practice, with particular interests in corporate and commercial law, intellectual property, technology, and emerging areas of legal regulation.
During his university studies, Edgar founded a student law firm through which he led practical legal advocacy and litigation before the University Tribunal. The matters he worked on included public interest, constitutional governance, intellectual property, contract, and business law. This experience provided an early foundation in legal research, advocacy, case preparation, and practical application of legal principles.
Edgar began his professional career at Landwell Advocates as a Legal Intern, subsequently progressing to Legal Assistant and Associate. In his current role, he supports corporate and commercial matters through legal research, preparation and review of legal documents, due diligence, and client-facing advisory work.
His experience also includes work with Landwell Consulting Group, where he supported advisory engagements involving small and medium-sized enterprises, mergers and acquisitions, banking, and finance. This exposure has strengthened his understanding of the legal and commercial considerations affecting businesses at different stages of development.
Alongside his legal practice, Edgar has developed a substantial interest in legal research and publishing. He previously served as Director of Research and Publications at Lawpoint Uganda, where he led research initiatives and coordinated contributors producing legal analysis on areas including human rights, constitutional law, intellectual property, and legal technology.
Edgar has contributed published legal commentary on a range of topics, including intellectual property, contract law, company law, minority protection, consideration, and good faith. His publications include “Bridging the Innovation Gap” and “The First Sale Doctrine in Uganda.” His continuing engagement with legal scholarship reflects his interest in examining how established legal principles respond to emerging commercial and technological developments.
Edgar is also Co-Founder and Director of Research and Programs at AWRIPO UG, through which he continues to engage in research and programmes at the intersection of law, innovation, and intellectual property.
His international exposure includes an internship with StellarStart Global, where he gained experience in legal research, compliance support, and due diligence involving intellectual property, business, and technology. This experience has contributed to his developing understanding of startup law, technology-driven businesses, and cross-border compliance considerations.
Edgar is particularly interested in the development of corporate and commercial law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, insolvency, intellectual property, and legal technology. He is also pursuing further postgraduate specialisation in law, with the objective of deepening his expertise in these areas.
His approach to legal practice combines analytical rigour, commercial awareness, research, and a strong interest in emerging legal and technological developments. He is particularly interested in supporting businesses and institutions as they navigate legal and regulatory issues associated with innovation, investment, technology, and commercial growth.
